The EU is committed to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. Hydrogen – which releases no CO2 emissions when burned – has the potential to play a key role in this transition to
a society with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. The problem, however, it that the vast majority of hydrogen production currently depends on fossil fuels. While investment in green hydrogen – produced using renewable energy sources – is at an unprecedented level, there is also now growing interest in the potential of naturally-occurring hydrogen.
